Notes : I recall one such painting in particular called Vygies, a bright, shadowless interpretation of white Namaqualand flowers at high noon, which today is owned by her granddaughter Shirley Tucle in far-away, Birmingham. A similar, top-view painting of rocks, mercilessly naked in full glare of the sun, was titled Noon. Both paintings gave lie to the contention then held that our local painters had not yet dared interpret our South African midday light and sun.1
