Description : African art. Yoruba, Nigeria. Rooster-shaped offering container. Blond patina hardwood with visible defects and restoration. Signs of use. Rare and elegant Yoruba container in the shape of a rooster, of fine quality in terms of accuracy of carving, richness of detail and balance of volume. It is also interesting to note the stylistic solution adopted by the sculptor in geometrically resolving the descriptive part relating to the bird's plumage. The light-colored patina, in no way artificially aged, reveals to us from the slightly darker color tone how the lid of the container was routinely gripped on the head side. Two cracks at the base of the sculpture, just below the spurs, have been nicely reassembled, while a glue smear from a modern artisanal restoration is redundant. Cm 46,00 x 41,00 x 15,00.
