Botany, 8vo, One of three articles in The Transactions of the South African Philosophical Scoiety, vol. 2, part 3 [1880-81]. This article has its own title-page and consists of pages 111-188 and includes a detailed list of numerous books and papers on South African botany - the first such list published. The other two articles are on soils and manures suitable for cultivation of vine at the Cape & on the summer and winter temperatures in South Africa. There is also a presidential address by Dr David Gill on the progress of science and teaching of science in South Africa. Original grey printer wrappers worn at head of spine, back cover loose, some foxing & browning, some ink notes and marks in the text and margins. Largely unopened and quite good condition.
