Abstract designed dance crest with elevated, anthropomorphic head, followed by a connecting long jaw, symbolizing a crocodile. Over the head two arms arise, that reach down to the mouth and a shark tail. At the Ijo, which are located in the Niger Delta, water spirits (Owu) played an important role in the religious imagination. At the beginning of the year or at the time of the flood a multi-day festival (ekine) was held to appease the water spirits ​​and thus to safe the welfare of the people. During the festivities, the mask appeared - here in the form of a mixed nature between snake, antelope, fish, crocodile and bird - horizontal worn on the head of a water dancer just above the water surface, as it would glide over the water.The dance crest is in good condition with slight traces of use and age.
