Notas : Notes: In this double-sided work, Wim Botha portrays an unfinished depiction of South Africa’s former coat of arms. Political symbols rendered in a delicately distorted manner are common motifs used by the artist, and this work is a strong example of the artist’s visual language. The reverse of the work shows a phantom-like sketch of a bird of prey, rendered in coffee and water, similar to the artist’s Watermark/Oilstick series of 2003.
