Notas : COLLECTOR'S NOTE Stanley Pinker’s auction record is an impressive, $545 183 for, The Garden of Eden sold in London, in 2012.• Important biennales include the Cape Town Biennale at the Iziko South African National Gallery in 1979 and the São Paulo Biennale in 1971 and 1965. The artist was widely-celebrated in his lifetime receiving the first prize and Rembrandt Gold Medal for his work, Meeting at the Mountains of the Moon at the Cape Town Triennial in 1985 and the Molteno Medal, in acknowledgement of a lifetime devoted to painting, in 2001.• Pinker’s artistic achievements were further acknowledged in a retrospective exhibition at the King George VI Gallery in Gqeberha (then Port Elizabeth) and the South African National Gallery, Cape Town in 1983. A monograph, Stanley Pinker, was published by Michael Stevenson in 2004, the year of the artist’s 80th birthday. COLLECTIONS: The artist is represented in numerous local and international collections, notably, the Rupert Museum, Stellenbosch; Iziko South African National Gallery; University of Cape Town; Spier Art collection, Stellenbosch; Johannesburg Art Gallery and the Oliewenhuis Art Museum; Bloemfontein.
