Notas : Having set up a studio together in 1942 as well as a private art school, Seif and Adham Wanly participated in over seventeen exhibitions, including a Venice Biennale, until Adham's death in 1959.Seif continued to paint after his brother's death and they are both regarded as two of Egypt's leading artists.Seif is renowned as a comedic expressionist, painting whimsical characters often seen at a bar, café, or on the beach. This work illustrates Seif's fondness theatre. We see two women intently leaning over the balcony at a theatre obviously thoroughly enjoying the show. Even with a pastel work such as this, his vivid palette, and the abstraction he employed to conjure up the sound and atmosphere of the environment is a powerful and evocative artistic technique.
