Notas : During 2012, the year in which Ready to go Home 1 was painted, Sam Nhlengethwa delved into the theme of conversation in different social scenarios. He depicted various situations, including lively schoolgirls on busy city streets, an intimate couple sharing an umbrella, and groups of men gathering to smoke after dark. A significant portion of his work during this period focused on conversations among young men, some of which were set in an initiation school, where they were commonly seen in their characteristic grey blankets, as shown in the artwork: Ready to go Home I.
In that same year, Nhlengethwa organized an exhibition titled Conversations at the Goodman Gallery in Cape Town, showcasing his art capturing moments of ritualistic connection and the anticipation associated with them. His art seamlessly blends the ceremonial and everyday life, allowing viewers to feel like they are eavesdropping on these conversations, fostering a profound sense of connection and contemplation.
