Fox, The life and art of Francois Krige (Vlaeberg, 2000, pg. 126):"In a broad range of portrait studies, Krige shows himself to be a demanding artist. Few of the sitters seem entirely comfortable, and silence seems to surround them as if they were not supposed to speak. In Hillary and Spanish Girl this silence enhances the serenity of their facial features providing a more relaxed accommodating space around the sitters" (Ibid, pg. 135).
