Descripción : Book Details: This lot consists of the antique folding map shown in the corresponding images. The full title of this map, Carte geographique de l'Egypte et des pays environnans, reduite d'apres la carte topographique levee pendant l'expedition de l'armee francaise, par les ingenieurs-geographes, les officiers du genie militaire et les ingenieurs des Ponts et Chaussees, assujettie aux observations des astronomes (1818), can be found in the upper left. The title is flanked by a table on either side. The first of these tables lays out, chronologically, various battles of l'armee d'Orient. The second table contains coordinates and distances between locations. Landmarks found on this map include Alexandria, Giza, Cairo, and the Red Sea. Topography is done in exquisite detail. There is hand-colored blue delineation around each body of water. The cartographer, Pierre Jacotin (1765–1827), was named director of all the surveyors and geographers working in the Nile Valley in 1799 during the campaign in Egypt of Napoleon.
