Carved wood figure with a double face, having inserted nails and dabs of paint, spongy bark, isinglass coverings on eyes and extended stomach. These items are added over time and facilitate communication and/or settlement of issues with a spirit. A Nkisi is regarded as a vessel for a spirit from the dead with power to heal, protect or punish. Condition good, commensurate with age. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 12H
