Descripción : Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. An attractive necklace composed of dozens of multi-colored, rainbow-hued faience seed and cylindrical beads, with three deep blue faience amulets, each representing a god - they appear to be falcon-headed Horus, grotesque Bes, and possibly monkey-headed Babi. These are arranged on a modern string with a modern sterling silver clasp. Size of largest amulet: 0.55 W (1.4 cm), length of strand: 17 L (43.2 cm) Egyptian faience was known as tjehnet to the ancient Egyptians, meaning brilliant or dazzling. It was made by grinding quartz or sand crystals together with various elements, including copper oxide and iron, which gave it its distinct coloration. Faience beads were used in everyday jewelry and also used to make burial nets to be placed over mummies.
