Descripción : Ancient Egypt, Pre-Dynastic Period, Naqada II to III, ca. 3500 to 3100 BCE. A beautiful mace head carved from brecciated limestone with a wide hafting shaft drilled through the center of the dense body. The apple-shaped weapon would have been mounted atop a lengthy wooden pole and used by swinging said pole with force, causing immense damage to whatever - or whomever - the stone head contacted. Size: 2.62 L x 2.57 W x 1.96 H (6.7 cm x 6.5 cm x 5 cm) A similar example of spherical form hammered for $3000 at Christie's, New York Antiquities auction (sale 3403, December 11, 2014, lot 23).
