Descripción : This is a wooden ADOUMA mask, the piece is hand carved, and originates from Gabon of Central Africa. The piece is colored in white pigments, possibly through the use of kaolinite, and has a flat, elongated nose, and small eyes as well as a small mouth. The large mask measures approx 12 inches H and 8 inches W. The masks show signs of wear due to the pieces age and use. African art, spiritual, spirits, sculptures, folk art, tribal art, arts and crafts, idols, totems, mantle accessories, shelf accessories. 9 Adouma masks are characterized by their flat surface, their domed foreheads, an angular nose, and small openings for eyes. The mouth is often minimal or omitted. They are usually painted in four sections, alternating light and dark. Masks like these were used for initiation and other ceremonies.
