Descripción : With minor differences, each with three-stage barrel slightly flared at the muzzle and decorated over its entire length at a later date with punched and incised foliage retaining faint traces of silvering, the decoration on one barrel involving a human face, iron tang en suite, signed border engraved rounded lock engraved with strawberry foliage (comb of one cock, one steel, steel-spring and both top jaws and screws replaced), moulded figured walnut full stock (some wear and bruising overall, one butt drilled with two holes on one side) with raised apron around the barrel tang, cast and chased brass mounts comprising foliate side-plate engraved with a line of graduated beadwork, shaped foliate escutcheon engraved with a Roman emperor's head in profile, and border engraved butt-plate and spur trigger-guard (one trigger replaced) each with foliate finial and engraved with strawberry foliage, terminating in a monster's head on one bow, single baluster ramrod-pipe, and brass-capped ramrod (one replaced), London proof marks (2) 31.2 cm. barrels

He was elected Master of the London Gunmakers' Company in 1703-4, was Gunmaker to Ordnance, 1685-1717, to the East India Company in 1716, the Hudson's Bay Company, 1687-1722, and to the Royal African Company, 1721-3. He died in 1723The side-plates are almost identical to that on the breech-loading flintlock rifle of circa 1690 by Jacques Gorgo sold from the W. Keith Neal Collection at Christie's, King Street, 9 November 2000, lot 90
