Descripción : AN EARLY ISLAMIC BLUE GLASS OCTAGONAL-SIDED FLASK CIRCA 9TH-10TH CENTURY A.D. The tall body with flaring mouth, creamy-white iridescence, 4¾ in. (12 cm.) high, a core-formed glass trefoil-lipped oinochoe, the opaque white body wound with aubergine spiral trail leading into a thicker band of zigzags around the centre of the body, foot and lip edged in aubergine, circa 6th-5th Century B.C., Eastern Mediterranean, 3½ in. (8.9 cm.) high, a core-formed glass amphoriskos, the opaque blue body wound with yellow spiral trail with turquoise and yellow marvered pattern around the centre, yellow trail around edge of rim, 3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) high, a fragmentary core-formed glass amphoriskos, the blue body wound with white and yellow spiral trails, tooled into a feather pattern over the body, 6 in. (15.2 cm.) high, both 4th-1st Century B.C. (4)

Procedencia : Formerly in the collection of Henry Wallis (1830-1916). In later life the Pre-Raphaelite artist, Wallis, became a noted scholar and collector of antiquities, his publications included works on Egyptian, Classical, Medieval and Islamic art. Wallis travelled widely in the Mediterranean and Egypt, where he met the archaeologist Sir W. M. Flinders Petrie.
