Descripción : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. This is a collection of five small faience amulets of different Egyptian deities and symbols of power. Egyptian faience was known as tjehnet to the ancient Egyptians, meaning brilliant or dazzling. It was made by grinding quartz or sand crystals together with various elements, including copper oxide, which gave it its distinct blue/green tint. In the New Kingdom, new developments in glass production crossed over into faience craftsmanship and a wider range of colors and shapes became available. Small amulets like these might have been buried with mummies or carried by individuals as protective wards and symbols of good luck. Included left to right are Isis nursing the infant Horus, Pataikos in rare deep cobalt blue, a Uraeus with solar crown, another Pataikos (this example rare due to the bi-chrome pigmentation) and finally Shu holding the sun on his shoulders. Size of tallest: 1.6 H (4.1 cm). The three center amulets are extremely rare! Provenance: Ex - private New Jersey collection formed between 1960 and 1985 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
