Notas : PROVENANCE:Acquired directly from the artist in Pretoria, circa 1957A private collectionThe present lot presages the later series Icarus I, II & III; these were large format oils painted between 1971 and 1972 and exhibited in the Alexis Preller retrospective in Pretoria in 1972 (cat. no. 190, 191 & 192).The work gives an interesting insight into Preller's working methods and shows that he would happily revisit a composition or subject many years after its initial inspiration.BIBLIOGRAPHY:E.
