Descripción : Antelope mask agira agbo Yoruba, Nigeria, possibly Ijebu wood, black patina, red paint, kaolin, a half-spherical base, carved with an antelopes head with elongated delicate snout, crowned by long twisted horns and tapering ears, slightly dam., cracks, repaired, according to Ijebu lore, the antelope became a water spirit because of its unwilling involvement in human attempts to capture bothersome spirits. They caught a beautiful and agile antelope and led it to the river, where they tied it to a tree. Vines and grasses were attached to its head. When the water spirits began to drag the antelope into the water, they were entangled in the vegetation. Up to this day, they struggle to free themselves and, in the process, stir the waters and make them rough.
