Descripción : AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE STELE
ROMAN PERIOD, CIRCA 1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
With curved top, carved in sunken relief with two draped figures,
wearing short sleeved tunics, shown with fringed hair, standing with
their arms raised, with a jackal sitting at the feet of each figure, 24cm
x 22cm
Provenance:
UK private collection, John Brian. Found in a house in Kibworth,
Leicestershire, where it had been left in situ since before 1920. The
house was previously owned after the First World War until the mid-1960s by an army officer who had served in Egypt and Palestine.
