Descrizione : The Yaka tribe migrated from Angola to southwestern Congo during the 16th century, and now live along the Wamba river.The chiefs of the Yaka are believed to have super-human powers to rule the underworld and spiritual realm. They participate in the affairs of witches to tap into their powers. They have multiple wives and many children in order to strengthen their authority and secure their lineage in the eyes of the tribe.This fantastic piece shows the figure wearing a goat mask and has a rich, dark patina throughout.Provenance:These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum.A fantastic piece that's perfect for your collection!Piece shows signs of use with a very nice patina from being handled and held. Some old cracking with old village repairs. Overall in good condition for its age.Measures approximately 25.5 x 6 with a total weight of 6 lbs.
