Provenance Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner Kossi's art has populated the courtyards, enclosures, sanctuaries and altars of lower Togo and Ghana for over thirty years. These wonderful creatures, imbued with the artist's faith and dreams, are meant to ward off spirits, to protect its owner. Kossi's sculpture is generally black and shiny, with a chocolate-brown lacquer, which is envigorated by passages of bright colour, indicating the spirited vitality of his work, and of the mystical and powerful figures he creates.
