Description : West Africa, Burkina Faso or Ivory Coast, Senufo, ca. 20th century CE. An evocative brass mask presenting a unique visage surmounted by a pair of downwards-curving horns. The ovoid vizard features openwork, half-circle eyes, pierced nostrils surrounded by twisted bands, and an open, ellipsoid mouth flanked by 3 raised, horizontal bands. Additional elevated lines adorn the top of the mask, forming a concentric lozenge-shaped motif, while 4 more vertically stripe the base of the horns.
