Condition / Notes: This antique first edition is bound in dark green cloth, with stamped gilt lettering and ornamentation on the front cover and spine. The exterior exhibits rubbing along the extremities and light to moderate scuffing on the covers. The head and foot of the spine cover display fraying. The binding is cracked. The pages show mild age toning concentrated in the margins. A bookplate is adhered to the front flyleaf. Minor pencil markings appear on the front pastedown and flyleaf. This book is richly illustrated with 231 photographic figures and 16 plates, a number of which fold out. The full-color frontispiece depicts an Egyptian model of a funereal barque.
