Consulter la cote et le prix de Bambara Carved Wood Maternity Fetish Figure

Description : This figure was created by the Bambara people, who inhibit several regions in West Africa including Mali and the Ivory Coast. The heavy encrustation and deterioration identify this as a fetish piece that was used in rituals to positively impact the village life. She holds a child in her lap, suggesting this piece was a maternity figure used in fertility ceremonies. The headdress has braids on either side that drape over the breasts, which was a common design for Bambara maternity pieces. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of the collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960's. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. Measures approximately 41 x 11 x 10 wit a total weight of 19 lbs.
