Description : **Originally Listed At $300** West Africa, Burkina Faso or Mali, Lobi or Tusyan (Tusya) peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A large cast-brass pendant or pectoral featuring raised geometric motifs and a pronged top. The peripheries are decorated with a raised linear pattern border. In the center is a raised X, semi-circular shapes, and double spirals. The prongs at the top represent the horns of a bush cow, a popular motif that was also used in masks to represent the supernatural spirit of the animal. Like the masks, this pendant imbues a spiritual protection upon the wearer. The bush cow also known as the forest buffalo (Suncerus caffer nanus), symbolize healing, agricultural fertility, and rites of passage.
