Description : **Originally Listed At $1800** West Africa, Burkina Faso or Ivory Coast, Senufo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden sculpture of a equestrian figure. The horse. As is usual with Senufo equestrian images, the horse is quite small in relation to the rider, who sits erect on his saddle, and a staff in his hand. The size difference highlights the authority and importance of the rider, the horse symbolizes his power and wealth. Equestrian figures are often placed in shrines as leaders of spirits.
