Descripción : Western Africa, Ghana or Nigeria, Ashanti (Asante) or Benin, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A cast-brass sword handle of an intricate form bearing an abstract zoomorphic pommel, a wire-wrapped hand guard, and an openwork upper guard. The handle is adorned with several concentric semicircular motifs that enable a greater grip for the sword-wielder, and the entire accessory is covered in fine layers of patina.
