Lemaire, Amsterdam Mathias Komor, New York Alex Arthur, Brussels Kevin Conru, Brussels/London California Private Collection Published Conru, Kevin, African and Oceanic Art, 2004, fig. 43 This figure for a Solomon Islands war canoe is finely carved with full, rounded cheeks below shell-inlaid eyes, an upturned nose and open mouth revealing teeth; the chin rests on hands pressed together; large naturalistic ears with sizeable circular earrings and a cap-like coiffure; the vertical plane in back pierced through twice for attachment to the prow.
