It is simply a preliminary description of monuments and ancient remains which require to be thoroughly studied at a later date. The material was rapidly collected during the ordinary course of the writer's inspections, and has been put together without reference to more than the half-dozen books which happened to be accessible. Condition / Notes: This antique volume has the original printed front wrapper (detached) with moderate soiling, tattering, and edge loss. The binding is split in several places prior to page 137. A printer's library label is affixed to the verso of the front wrapper, with a library stamp. The color frontispiece depicts a vase. The pages show moderate age toning and scattered light foxing, mostly in the margins. This work is lavishly illustrated with 96 plates (including two in color) and a fold-out map.
