Descripción : AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FAIENCE USHABTI, LIKELY FOR NEFER-IB-RE-SA-NEITH, SON OF SHEP-EN-BASTET, LATE PERIOD, 26TH DYNASTY, 664-525 BC, attributed as one of the 336 funerary figures found in the Tomb of Neferibresaneith, Saqqara, Egypt, pale green in color, standing on an integral trapezoidal plinth against an uninscribed back pillar, in mummiform with eight rows of heiroglyphs surmounted by arms crossing at the figure's chest, fisted hands emerge from within the vestment, holding a crook and flail, a seed sack tossed over the left shoulder, wearing a striated, tripartite hairstyle, centering a braided pharaonic-beard curving outward at the tip, on a custom, pyramidal ebony plinth stand, verso hand inscribed paper label, Jerome M. Eisenberg, and second paper label with hand inscribed number. Height: 7 1/16 Width: 2 Depth: 1 3/4 NOTE: This shabti was likely made for a 26th Dynasty official. His basilophorous names (a name containing the name of a king) includes the prenomen Neferibre of Psamtik II (595-589 BC) which indicates that he was likely born during Psamtik II's reign and refereces to Amasis II (570-526 BC) which suggests that he lived a long life, dying during the later Pharaoh's reign. For a similar example see accession no. 58.4.2 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (on view in Gallery 127). Provenance: Purchased from Le Pere Associates, New York, New York circa 1985, by decent current owner Houston, Texas.
