Description : **Originally Listed At $200** Western Africa, Nigeria, Ogoni peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden mask of a minimalist form with an articulated mandible. The ovoid vizard features slit-form eyes, pairs of protruding circular dots along each temple, black curvilinear motifs surrounding the mouth, tab-shaped ears, and a singular horizontal scarification bar centered on the brow. The backswept coiffure is accentuated with black pigment to have it contrast against the cream-hued countenance, and thick lengths of rope suspend the mandible from the upper section of the mask. Condition report : Repair to left side of face with light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to ears, nose, lips, and face, with fading and scuffs to pigment in some small areas. Great remains of pigment throughout. Mandible still articulates smoothly.
