Murnane - William Joseph Murnane (March 22, 1945 – November 17, 2000) was an American Egyptologist and author of an number of books and monographs on Ancient Egypt. He was director of the Great Hypostyle Hall Project at Luxor Karnak Temple, was a research associate and held a Dunavant Professorship in the History Department of the Institute of Egyptian Art & Archaeology at the University of Memphis. Several of his scholarly monographs are used as standard references by historians and philologists whilst more popular works, which drew on his considerable knowledge of Ancient Egyptian monuments, are used by tourists. It is regrettable that the manuscript could not be published before Nelson's death in 1954, and the project lapsed for nearly a quarter of a century thereafter. Condition / Notes: This is the first part of the first volume only of The Great Hypostle Hall at Karnak, focusing on the wall reliefs. The volume is bound in brown cloth covers with stamped gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. There is light rubbing at the corners of the volume. The binding is solid. The pages are clean and bright. This work is lavishly illustrated with 267 plates depicting the wall reliefs, including several fold-out plates.
