Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: CARVED WOOD FANG MASK - (Gabon, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea) Applied white clay color suggests this mask was linked with the dead and ancestors. Elongated form, facial scarification, bulbous forehead and long vertical nose, suggest it was intended for use in ancestor worship, seeking protection from deceased and soliciting their help. Raffia cord holes either side. Condition good, minor wood loss on lip. Late 19th, early 20th century. 19.5H x 10.5W
