Description : African Republic of Congo, Songye masks represent either male or female beings. They are characterized by angular, bold forms and the face is covered in patterns of geometric grooves. Female masks are distinguished by the predominant use of white clay and the rounded form of the crown of the head. Sourced from a long time collector of African masks and artifacts, this has been in his collection for many decades. Good condition, small hole below eye, small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. Measures approximately 17 high, 11.5 wide and 7 deep.
